Crossroads Discipleship Training School
The Crossroads Discipleship Training School (DTS) is YWAM’s foundational five month missions course that is designed to facilitate for the students a deepened understanding of the story of God, their role and place in it through living and learning together in community and being formed to become difference makers in the world.
The first 12 weeks of the school is in-reach development. This is where we focus on training and equipping the students through providing sound theological teaching from a variety of speakers each week. We cover different topics such as, understanding God as a communicator, the trinity of God (father, Son and Holy Spirit), missions (learning to live and communicate cross-culturally) and many more.
The students will also be engaged in processing groups, one on ones with staff members, work duties, love feasts, intercession, assignments and projects, worship and practicing how to be difference makers through participating in our inner city ministry initiatives.
Making God known
The last 8 weeks will be outreach development. This is where the students apply and put into practice what they have been learning and creating through stepping out to make God known in the City.
Our school’s major outreaches will focus on European cities.
Target outreach location, the first two years, Amsterdam
You did not choose me but I chose you, and appointed you that you would go and bear fruit, and that your fruit would remain, so that whatever you ask of the Father in my name He May give you.
Do you want to be trained and equipped to be a City missionary? Then this DTS is for you.
The agreeable fact; The greatest quest for the human soul is to discover how to be fully human, to find meaning and purpose in life.
The bad news; no matter how hard we try, we can never fully attain this pursuit in and of ourselves.
The good news; of all the wisdom books available out there; the bible does offer us a storyline which provides a road map that answers the core deepest inner questions of the human soul …
- Who am l? The question of identity
- Where am I from? The question of heritage
- Why am I here? The question of purpose
- What can I do? The question of potential or capacity
- Where am I going? The question of hope
Through this course we will journey and explore JESUS, the core of our Christian spirituality and deepen our understanding of:
- The story we’re living in
- The trinity (father, Son and Holy Spirit – our inclusion and participation)
- The church (the value of Christian communities – growing together)
- Self (the value of knowing and being known - growing in character and discovering your personal leadership)
- The outflow (being the light in the world – bringing the reality of JESUS to those outside the church)
Through the progression of the school we’ll be re-imagining evangelism through a deepened understanding of the biblical meta-narrative. We’ll be investigating and searching for new paradigms of missional engagements as we seek to reach Europe’s secularised and postmodern culture.
It is not enough for us to understand our cities from a distance.
It is not enough to only have a strategy on how to be missional. We need to wade into the culture and rub shoulders with those whom we desire to reach for Christ. We need to be willing to live life with unchurched postmodernists by understanding what makes their world tick. This will lay the ground for real communication and interaction to take place.
The healing and restoration of the heart, body and spirit. Europe has dynamic and vibrant cities full of potential and opportunities. The cultures are diverse, multifaceted and liberal.
Our main objectives is to unveil Europe (peoples. places. passions). To engage the Europeans the way Paul engaged the Greeks, reasoning through question asking? … The intellectual approach to interact with people as we seek to make GOD known.
We want to engage people in their life stories, to be fully engaged and present. Just as God responded to Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden after they had disobeyed him, we want to engage the people of the city by demonstrating the heart of the father who loves them unconditionally..
1 Corinthians 9:19-23
For though I am free from all, I have made myself a servant to all, that I might win more of them. To the Jews I became as a Jew, in order to win Jews. To those under the law I became as one under the law (though not being myself under the law) that I might win those under the law. To those outside the law I became as one outside the law (not being outside the law of God but under the law of Christ) that I might win those outside the law. To the weak I became weak, that I might win the weak. I have become all things to all people, that by all means I might save some. I do it all for the sake of the gospel, that I may share with them in its blessings.
This DTS experience will definitely be a transformational journey in every way thinkable.
