Seasons come and seasons go. Each period brings forth another sort of fruit of ministry. For almost 40 years, YWAM Amsterdam has had an important stake in the heart of our city through various ministries from Oudezijds Voorburgwal 63, first known as “The Cleft” and more recently “The Lighthouse”. Our desire throughout this time has been and will continue to be, to see people in this neighbourhood transformed by the love of Jesus Christ!
For the past seven years, The Lighthouse ministry has laboured to see spiritual wholeness and freedom for those involved in Amsterdam’s red light districts through a variety of outreach and training initiatives. In February, the Lighthouse team felt led to discontinue their efforts as a ministry.
YWAM continues to reach out to women and men in this neighbourhood through the Tabernacle house of prayer and through the Evangelism team. The Evangelism team in particular has been able to grow in recent months and now has more full time staff serving in their Ladies Ministry outreach in the central red light district, called ‘De Wallen.’ The Prodigals Ministry also continues to reach the drug dealers who operate on the edge of the district.
The Shine Seminar is also continuing under our Training Department, having just graduated 20 students in May, equipping them to provide a Christian response to the global sex trade.
We want to communicate our appreciation for each of the staff, volunteers, and partners of this ministry and for the impact they have had together on so many lives.
We appreciate your prayer for us as a base, as we go back to the 'drawing board' to receive God's new assignment for our facility and ministry for the next season.
